About Contour Reports
Eclipse BIRT
Eclipse BIRT is an open source report designer sponsored by
IBM and Actuate. Reports provide many custom capabilities
for viewing your data. Contour comes with several reports out of
the box and Jama provides additional reports here for download
that can be used in your own environment.
Velocity
Velocity is a template engine that has been built into
Contour. Users can generate Word, Excel or HTML documents by
first creating a template in Word (for example) saving it as HTML
or XML and then inserting the Velocity syntax. This is similar to
a mail merge where the data passed to Velocity is inserted based
on the template defined by the user.
Which one should I use?
The significant difference between Velocity and BIRT is that
Velocity uses Contours API and the data the user is currently
viewing. While BIRT is built outside of Contour using SQL
Queries.
Custom Reporting
Whether you use BIRT or Velocity you have two options in
creating your own personal custom reports.
To roll your own check out the

section within our user guide for more information. It is
recommended to have a dedicated report designer as there can be a
learning curve.
